National Service Scheme (NSS) is an educational and student-oriented programme. It inculcates the spirit of volunteering among students through community interaction.
National Service Scheme (NSS) was launched in 1969, the birth centenary year of Mahatma Gandhi, in 37 Universities involving 40,000 students. NSS is an extension dimension to the higher education system to orient student youth toward community service while studying in educational institutions.
Aim:
The motto of NSS is “NOT ME BUT YOU”. The aim was that national or social service be introduced on a voluntary basis and extended as widely as possible, providing a rich, varied programme of activities with an imaginative approach to youth.
It aims to instill among volunteers the values of democratic living, equality of opportunity, and selfless service towards the less privileged, preparing them to become agents of positive social change.
Specific Objectives:
NSS Symbol:
The Konark wheel in the NSS badge having 8 bars signifies the 24 hours of the day, reminding the wearer to be ready for the service of the nation around the clock.
The central aim of the NSS is to provide hands-on experience to young students in delivering community service. The NSS Unit provides a platform for students and faculty for community work and developing a sense of involvement in nation-building tasks. Various projects like Project Parivartan are undertaken to promote regular health and wellness practices among society.
NSS Volunteers:
Thus, the objectives of the NSS Scheme are personality development and social service. Through active participation, students develop a realistic appraisal of social reality and enhanced civic awareness.
The programmes and activities undertaken by NSS are aimed towards giving an educational experience to the students, helping them develop their character and leadership skills.
We, Dr. Rafiq Zakaria College for Women, always strive to achieve excellence through quality education by providing the right academic ambience for the overall development of our students.
Our NSS Unit, along with faculty, non-teaching staff, and student volunteers, regularly organizes Tree Plantation Drives, Blood Donation Camps, Awareness Camps, Health Camps, Village Vaccination Drives, and various social outreach programmes.
We shall always follow the footsteps of Dr. Rafiq Zakaria Sahab and Padmashree Madam Fatma Rafiq Zakaria, who laid the foundation of our prestigious institution under the Maulana Azad Education Society & Trust.
“A great man is different from an eminent one in that he is ready to be the servant of the society.”
